Graduating on Time: Perverse Incentives in Malaysian Academia

Graduating on time for PhD students has been seen as a symbol of victory and a mark of quality in Malaysian Academia.

However, with too many students just focusing on achieving the title of ‘graduating-on-time’ (GOT), will this affect the quality of research papers published?

This paper seeks to explain the current Malaysian policies with regards to GOT, and whether it is in everyone’s interest to remove both the requirements for publications and the GOT status. Or not.
